Project Donate

I'm sure you've heard, but if you haven't, Project Donate is starting up, with the first event benefiting the UNICEF Pakistan Flood Crisis and will run from September 4-19, 2010. This is a very worthy cause. I pulled this off of the Project Donate blog:

Facts about the 2010 Pakistan floods

(Data source: Reuters, dated 20 Aug. 2010)

* There have been more than 1,600 deaths.

* 4,000,000 people have been rendered homeless.

* 8,000,000 people have been identified as needing urgent assistance and medical care.

* Up to 20,000,000 people have been affected by the floods.

* Up to 3,500,000 children are in danger of contracting water and insect borne diseases.

* The floods have ruined over 1,600,000 acres of crops and 200,000 livestock animals have died.

WHAT YOUR MONEY CAN BUY

$6 [Approx. $1500L] can provide three 10-liter collapsible water containers for transporting and storing water.

$60 [Approx. $16,000L] can provide 20 sheets of tarpaulin, providing simple shelter or ground sheeting for several families.

$200 [Approx. $54,000L] can provide one recreation kit for 90 children to enjoy physical activity and play in times of emergency or displacement-containing items such as Frisbees, jump ropes, footballs, volleyballs, handballs, whistles, a chalkboard and chalk, etc.

Statement by UNICEF Executive Director, Anthony Lake, on the flooding in Pakistan

“Mothers are fleeing flooded homes with nothing but their babies clinging to their backs; people waving for help from the top of stranded buses as the waters rise around them; desperately thirsty children drinking from contaminated water sources. The humanitarian tragedy in Pakistan has reached tragic proportions. But serious shortfalls in funding are limiting our ability to save lives as the crisis worsens”.

Now let’s talk hope

September 4-19, Project Donate which consists of some of your favorite designers, bloggers and SL residents are coming together to do something…to raise hope. Many have created items -several of them in under one week - and are donating a percentage, if not the entire profit, to the UNICEF Pakistan Flood Crisis Fund. You can start to view some of the items that will be out for sale on the Project Donate Flickr Group.

If you have any further questions regarding Project Donate, please drop a note card on Unicef Rainfall which is the account created by Truth Hawks, the founder of Project Donate, to answer any questions.

Please contact Keira Seerose for Vendor or Blogger applications.

Plurky Bloggers - Oldies But Goodies!

Cutie pie Alysha Rennahan issued a Plurky Blogger challenge for this coming month for us, and you know me. I LOVE challenges! This week's challenge is Oldies But Goodies and we're supposed to use items that are over a year old. Hey, I'm a packrat. No problem!

I won't be giving SLurls because honestly? I have no idea at all if these items are available anymore. But dig in your inventory - there's a good chance you might have something!

Plurky Blogger Challenge - Oldies But Goodies

I'm wearing the jeans and the jacket of the Day Trip outfit by Mischief. My shirt is the white top from the Anjuna set by Zaara. I wear this tank with sooo many things, it's just that darn good, even if it is about 2 years old. Great textures are great textures, am I right? My shoes, which you can barely see, are the Kristin Booties by much loved & missed ETD. I'm wearing the Alex hair by Refuge. I used to wear this hair SO MUCH! I'm wearing the Kimberly skin by Free Speerit. This was my primary skin for ages. I forgot just how lovely it is! And my necklace is just marked Cherrynecklace silver in my inventory. It is made by Carolin Bonetto of Noir*Lily. I think it's still available for purchase, but I have no clue. My eyes are Sea Foam from also much loved & missed Miriel. I don't know if my pose from ImpEle is over a year old, but I think it is. And I'm in the 2Level City Skybox by !doux petit, which is also over a year old!

If you'd like to read more about Aly's challenge and get in on it, you can read up here!

Today's Gaze - Overly Cute

I'm not usually fond of the overly cute look on me. I love it on other people [like my friend Aisuru does it and does it amazingly well], but on me...no.

However, I was checking out the Fifty Linden Friday pics, and stumbled across this dress. I knew just the hair I wanted to wear with it, and voila! Instacute!

[All SLurls are at the bottom if you don't want to read!]

Review - Today's Gaze - Overly Cutesy

The Confetti dress from Katat0nik is currently in Fifty Linden Friday, and look how adorable it is! Of course, that's just what you'd expect from Katat0nik anyway, as the entire store is just filled with super cutesy dresses. I like the tiny little skully detail, and I may end up wearing it like a babydoll top later on.

The hair is from new-to-me store, Heart Softens. The store is filled with cute -and kinda big- hair. And oh so budget friendly! You can get a fatpack for less than the cost of one color in some other stores. I'm wearing Lott in ash brown, and I'm just crushing on the big fluffy side ponytail! It is no mod, which I don't usually love, but there is a resizer script and at this price, it's not a big deal to me. Is it the best quality you'll ever see? No. But cute and cheap works for me!

My shoes are also cute and budget friendly from G Field. I came across these Kate mary jane heels at the Shoe Fair and fell so in love with them. I'm wearing them in cream, and the bow is color change. Love!!!

My skin is Isolde by Exodi in the Cachet tone, #13 makeup and my pose is by Exposeur. I'm also standing in the Daydreamer house by not yet opened Funky Junk. Trust me, when it opens up, you guys are going to WANT these prefabs. Too cute!

I'm off to run around in my cuteness!

Just Dandy!

I had a post planned for today to welcome in the new school year, but Miel totally pushed that plan aside because I just HAD to blog this new dress and super cute new boots!!

The Dandy dress and boots are just the cutest things I've seen in a while! Check it out!

Review - Miel - Just Dandy!

The Dandy dress has a very low cut top [I think I'll be wearing a tank underneath later, because I'm kind of modest] and an incredibly cool sculpted skirt! The skirt has script options to change colors for the 2 layers, pockets and belt. You know I LOVE options! I'm wearing the top and the first layer of the skirt in Sail, and there are 5 colors available to mix and match with. You can buy each color individually, but why? You need all of them! You also have the option of having the skirt with or without dandelions in the pocket, and there is also a little bunch of dandelions you can hold! I'm not holding them, but believe me, they're adorable!

And the Dandy boots? Well, just look at them! Kind of slouchy, but not beat up at all, and they have the great lacing in the back. I'm wearing them in Solid, but there are also some with a light floral print and trust me, those are just as precious as can be.

Get yourself over to Miel now!!

Today's Gaze - Today I'm A Lady

I don't usually do posts on the 50L Friday items, just because...well, I'm pretty slow to post most of the time. :) But I just had to do one today because I picked up some items that were just TOO GOOD to miss out on!! Especially if you love pretty, ladylike fashion as much as I do!

[All SLurls will be at the bottom if you don't feel like reading!]

Review - Today's Gaze - Today I'm A Lady

From Surf Co. comes this adorable little dress called Somer. The skirt is a sculpted marvel. The folds just look sooo good!! I did have to work with the chest fold a bit to get it out of my chest, but unless you have super massive boobs, it shouldn't be a problem. Today for FLF you can get Somer in Goldenrod [which I'm wearing] or Tomato for, of course, just 50L.

Also for FLF, Tiny Bird has an AMAZING deal!! Autumn has put out four color packs of her "Greatest Hits" hairs. There are 5 hairs to a pack and each pack is just 50L, so you'd be crazy not to pick it up! [Um, unless you're a guy. It's all female hair.] I'm wearing Love Love Love in sandy blonde. I actually had most of this hair already, but in different colors, so don't think I wasn't in there picking up more packs! Even the hair with the cans for rollers is included! Go!!

I'm also wearing the ladylike little Ribbon Slingbacks in cream by G Field, and the Glass Flower necklace by Paper Couture, both of which I think really pull the look together. My skin is the new Isolde by Exodi, which I'm wearing in makeup #12 in the Vivante skin tone. My pose is from the Playful Fairy set by Exposeur.

Today is the big FLF One Year party later tonight, and it's also OMGWTF Barbeque's birthday! IM Barb and give her birthday spanks!

Never Can Say Goodbye

Whenever Ashoka Eales pops into my IM with, "Hey beautiful!" I always know something good is coming. But last night...sadness! Phoenix Rising is closing its doors! I am really down about it and keep hoping it's not true. But, since it is, you can take advantage and hit up their 100L closing sale before the store is gone and pick up cute new things, like the Oda shirt and the Mona pants.

Review - Phoenix Rising - Goodbye :(

This shirt is just so so lovely. I adore the big ruffled collar! The fit is just perfect, I didn't have to adjust a single thing, which is usually not the case as far as prims go! I'm wearing it in black [hey, I'm in mourning!] but there are other colors available.

The Mona pants are nice, basic pants with a button fly. There are also 3 styles of prim cuffs available, which is awesome for when you want a different look or want to wear them with different shoes. I'm wearing them in Grey, and there are other colors as well.

Go hit up the sale and load up on goodies before Phoenix Rising closes. And let's cross our fingers that this isn't really a closing - it's more of a "We'll see you later" type of thing!

Back To School With FIR!

I know it's just the beginning of August, but this is around the time when stores start pushing all their Back To School wear. Around my area, the kids start heading back usually in mid-August, so I guess that's why! :)

The new Checker Shirts and Tux Pants by FIR made me think of that perfect "Back To School" outfit that you'd wear on your first day back. You know the one. It has to look casual, like you're not trying too hard, but it has to be new! You can't go back in any ratty old clothes. Save those for the second day!

Review - *FIR* - Back To School

I think I make a cute boy, don't you?

The Checker Shirt comes on all layers, for that tucked or untucked look, and the prim cuffs and collar are modifiable so you can get the best fit. The shirts actually look pretty sweet on girls, too!

The Tux Pants are just nice, basic pants with a slimmer slouchy cuff. Very cute!

I love to see a guy in clean cut basics, and these fit the bill! Guys, get yourselves over to FIR and get shopping!!

Vroom vroom!

I'll admit it. I'm a sucker for anything I can ride on in SL. Don't get dirty! Cars, horses, pogo balls, bicycles...if I can ride it, I'm happy! I saw last night that Blackberry Jam was having a 50% off sale, and that it included their Kiddy Wheels cars, so I ran right out today and grabbed it!!

Aww, Piper thinks my driving skills need work.

Review - Blackberry Jam - Kiddy Wheels, female

The Kiddy Wheels is a car that you wear, so if it's just you in the car, then you can vroom vroom anywhere you'd like to go! I always like that because sometimes I want to drive around in a place where I can't rez something.

Now you CAN, however, buy a separate "saddle" for your car if you want 3 of your friends to ride with you. The saddle you DO have to rez to the ground. Then you sit on the invisible box [ctrl-alt-t to turn on your "Reds" so you can see it!] and your passengers can sit on the poseballs. Then...vroom vroom!

But don't worry, this isn't just for girls. In the pack there is a boy car too!

Review - Blackberry Jam - Kiddy Wheels, male

Along with both the male & female cars in the pack, there are different sizes for adult and child sized avatars. Currently during the sale, they're available for $199L, and you can purchase the saddle for $50L.

Vroom vroom yourself over to Blackberry Jam and get rollin'!

Bacchitecture!

So by now you've probably heard of the House & Garden Hunt that's going on. But you might be asking yourself "Hey! Where am I going to put all my new furniture?" I have a suggestion!

Bacchitecture is one of the newest prefab shops to hit the grid, and oh! The houses are just lovely! Owner Bacchus Ireto was kind enough to drop some houses on me [um, not Wicked Witch style!] and I had so much fun rezzing houses to play in! Bacchus is the former curator of the Frank Lloyd Wright Virtual Museum, and draws his inspiration from American vernacular architecture, as well as the buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, Mies van der Rohe, and Robert A. M. Stern.

Let's take a look at two of my favorites, the Llewellyn and the Lutsen!

Review - Bacchitecture - Llewellyn

Review - Bacchitecture - Lutsen

I am a huge fan of very tasteful, classic homes. I don't usually get into the whole modern thing, and so these two prefabs worked really well for me! They are built beautifully, and the insides are just as pretty, without being overwhelming at all. That is really awesome because then you can decorate to your own taste without feeling like the house is forcing you into something. Yes, houses force!

There are several houses to choose from at Bacchitecture, so head on over and rez some out to look in. I bet you'll find one that you just can't live without!
